About Black Men Speak, Inc.: Black Men Speak, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to amplifying the voices of Black men and women through storytelling, community engagement, and advocacy. Our mission is to foster a supportive community where Black men can share their experiences, inspire others, and drive positive social change.

Position Summary: The Program Director/Manager will oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Black Men Speak, Inc.'s programs and initiatives. This role is critical to the success of our mission, ensuring that our programs are impactful, sustainable, and aligned with our organizational goals. The Program Director/Manager will work closely with staff, volunteers, partners, and community members to create a supportive and empowering environment for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) community members. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), exempt salaried position, reporting to the Executive Director of Black Men Speak, Inc., and supervising program staff, including a Community Engagement Coordinator, WRAP Facilitator, Forensic Peer Specialist, and others. This position is contract-funded through a three-year Master Contract with the Alameda County Behavioral Health Department (ACBHD), also known as the Behavioral Health Department, Alameda County Health.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, nonprofit management, public administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in program management within a nonprofit organization.
  • Strong understanding of issues affecting Black men and the ability to develop culturally relevant programs.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Experience with program evaluation and data analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and program management software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Passion for the mission of Black Men Speak, Inc. and a commitment to social justice and equity.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certified Forensic Peer Specialist
  • Experience in Nonprofit Sector: Prior experience working in or with nonprofit organizations.
  • Grant Writing and Management: Demonstrated success in writing and managing grants.
  • Data Analysis Skills: Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret program data to drive decision-making.
  • Conflict Resolution: Strong conflict resolution skills and the ability to manage difficult conversations effectively.
  • Public Relations: Experience with public relations and media engagement to promote programs.
  • Tech Savvy: Proficiency with program management software and other technology tools that enhance productivity and communication.
  • Networking Skills: Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and donors.
  • Cultural Competency: Deep understanding and sensitivity to the cultural, socioeconomic, and demographic characteristics of the communities served.
  • Project Management Certification: PMP or other relevant project management certification.
  • Bilingual: Fluency in a second language commonly spoken in the community (e.g., Spanish) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and mental health resources.
  • Experience in public speaking and facilitating group discussions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Lived experience relevant to the mission of Black Men Speak, Inc. is highly valued and encouraged.

Employment Terms:

  • This is a contract-funded position through a three-year master contract with Alameda County Behavioral Health Department (ACBHD), also known as the Behavioral Health Department, Alameda County Health.
  • Employment is contingent upon continued funding through ACBHD.
  • The initial contract term is three years, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability.
  • This position requires working in the office two days per week, with the option to work remotely for the remaining three days. However, for the first three months, the incumbent will be expected to work in the office to foster collaborative relationships with staff and community partners during the onboarding process.
  • We have budgeted $67,500 for this role for the current fiscal year (FY2025 - July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2025) and set a pay range between $64,480 - $84,480. Actual compensation will be based on experience and qualifications for the role of Program Manager and fall within this range.
