Join our journey! From industrial to post-consumer mechanically recycled content in our BOPP wraparound label material

Integrating recyced content into films for packaging and labels will be a priority in the upcoming years. Driven by legislation such as the Packagingand Packaging Waste Regulation in the EU but also by plastic taxes in countries like the UK.

Since two years every brand that places plastic packaging on the market that does not contain 30% recycled content will be charged a premium. This is why the Innovia site in Wigton has been developing films (for example RayoFace RFC30p30) that contain at least 30% recycled content for customers and ultimately – the whole industry. Up until now this 30% consisted of post-industrial waste but after further developments and sourcing we will soon be able to offer mechanically recycled content from post-consumer waste.

??Our 30% recycled content film for BOPP wraparound labels that are very much used in the beverage industry on PET bottles, for example, have been extremely well received. By starting to feed back our production waste to develop new films we gained a lot of experience regarding extrusion. Now this expertise and learnings will pay off when we start to include mechanically recycled content from post-consumer sources into our clear films. That is something that not many are able to do easily“, explains Paul Watters, Product Manager Labels at Innovia UK in Wigton.
