Join Our Elite Geographic Information Laboratory (China) for Cutting-edge Research Opportunities

I. Overview of the Laboratory

This Geographic Information Laboratory, officially established in 2023, is a premier scientific and technological innovation hub jointly developed by the Ministry of Natural Resources of China and the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government. Directly managed by the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government, the laboratory operates as a new-type research and development institution, adopting modern management strategies and market-oriented operational models.

Located in Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province, the laboratory enjoys an exceptionally advantageous geographical location in the northern extension of the Hangzhou West Science and Technology Innovation Corridor, providing researchers with excellent research facilities and convenient transportation.

II. Research Directions of the Laboratory

① Intelligent Surveying and Mapping:Focusing on intelligent demands such as real-time sensing, precise cognition, contextual expression, accurate navigation, and autonomous service for spatial-temporal information, we research the analytical modeling of surveying and mapping natural intelligence and its coupling mechanism with artificial intelligence. We aim to create a spatio-temporal hybrid intelligent computing paradigm that considers spatio-temporal characteristics, break through key technologies in spatio-temporal hybrid computing, such as real-scene perception of spatio-temporal data, multi-dimensional cognition of spatio-temporal scenes, contextualized expression of spatio-temporal maps, and autonomous spatio-temporal intelligent services. This will enhance the intelligent level of surveying and mapping in spatio-temporal perception, cognition, expression, navigation, and service, promoting the intelligent transformation and upgrading of surveying and mapping disciplines and technological systems.

② Advanced Remote Sensing:Addressing significant scientific issues and bottlenecks such as insufficient dynamic/real-time perception and precise positioning capabilities in complex terrain environments, the lack of multi-semantic fusion 3D spatio-temporal data models, and low automation levels in high-precision spatio-temporal information extraction, we independently construct theoretical and technological systems for earth remote sensing perspective detection, remote sensing intelligent monitoring, natural resource survey and monitoring, global remote sensing public product construction, and immediate remote sensing services. We aim to build an internationally leading advanced remote sensing research and experimental platform and an international exchange and cooperation base, supporting the strategic emerging development of spatio-temporal information industries and meeting the urgent needs of national governance and socio-economic development for advanced remote sensing technologies.

③ Spatio-Temporal Computing:Addressing the current issues of closed system architectures and static service computation in spatio-temporal business systems, we research open, scalable, and easily reproducible spatio-temporal dynamic service computing technical architectures. We develop spatio-temporal dynamic service computing platforms that support data, operator, and knowledge co-construction, sharing, collaborative computing, and dynamic interaction, providing a reproducible and scalable standard framework for the storage, management, visualization, computation, and utilization of multi-source heterogeneous data algorithms. We focus on demonstrating applications in core businesses such as integrated monitoring and supervision of natural resources and the construction of national land and spatial planning implementation monitoring networks. We integrate and develop models and methods for high-precision ready data processing, precise monitoring of spatio-temporal elements, intelligent supervision of spatio-temporal scenes, and knowledge services, providing spatio-temporal computing power infrastructure for high-level spatio-temporal analysis, high-quality spatio-temporal empowerment, and high-intelligence remote sensing big data processing.

④ Real-scene 3D Economic Research:Responding to the demand for carrying and associating various socio-economic-environmental information in the era of the Internet of Everything and big data, we conduct strategic planning and top-level design for real-scene 3D economy to support spatio-temporal computing and spatio-temporal intelligence. We promote research on key technologies for real-scene 3D empowerment and the development of spatio-temporal big data platforms, creating several reproducible and easily promotable industry empowerment solutions. We aim to solve the last-mile problem in real-scene 3D empowerment applications, forming typical demonstration cases and samples in Zhejiang, Huzhou, Deqing, and other regions, playing a leading and demonstrative role nationwide. We highlight the important role of real-scene 3D in supporting the high-quality digital development of the country and local areas, opening up new avenues for the real-scene 3D economy, activating the vast digital China market, and fostering and strengthening new momentum for the digital economy.

⑤ Smart Land and Resources Research:Addressing issues such as insufficient business integration, inadequate technical support, weak overall synergy, and insufficient development momentum in the digital development and application of land and spatial resources, we conduct research on the overall digital development and intelligent application of land and spatial resources. We build a unified land and spatial information model to effectively collect and integrate data from various business fields of natural resources, providing integrated management of spatio-temporal information and integrated reuse of common functions. We develop and construct a sky-ground integrated dynamic observation system for land and spatial resources
