?? Morning Ritual: A Journey in Social Work with a Touch of Buddhism and Humility ??
Every morning, I leap out of bed with a resounding "Woo!"—a burst of energy to kickstart my day with enthusiasm and joy. My morning ritual is more than just a routine; it’s a blend of gratitude & humility, mindful practices inspired by Buddhism, and the fulfilling demands of a career in social work.
1. Embrace the Day with Gratitude ?? Before anything else, I take a moment to express gratitude for the new day. This simple act of thankfulness sets a positive tone and reminds me of the interconnectedness we share with all beings.
2. Connect with the World ?? I engage with the world early on—whether it’s sending a heartfelt "good morning" text to a friend, smiling at a neighbor, or simply saying hello to someone. These small acts of connection reinforce our shared humanity and keep me grounded in the principles of social work.
3. Meditate and Breathe ?? A short meditation or deep breathing exercise follows. This practice clears my mind, reduces anxiety, and helps me approach my tasks with a calm, focused mind—akin to the clarity sought in Buddhist mindfulness.
4. Nourish and Energize ?? A nutritious breakfast is non-negotiable. It fuels my brain, preparing me for the intellectual challenges ahead. I choose foods that nourish both body and mind, enhancing my ability to delve into the depths of social work. I always start with a fruit!
5. Sun-Gazing for Perspective ?? Even a brief moment spent gazing at the sun (safely, of course) invigorates me. It’s a reminder of the vast world outside my window and the endless opportunities each day holds.
6. Move and Stretch ??♀? A ten-minute walk outside or a light yoga sequence is essential. Rolling out my back and stretching not only awakens my body but also provides a fresh perspective on my activities—often sparking new ideas and insights.
7. Give Yourself Grace ?? Establishing a routine takes time, and it’s important to give yourself grace. Each morning is a new opportunity to refine and embrace your ritual. Healthy mornings lead to productive, fulfilling days. Anything is better than nothing! Start small.
By integrating these elements into my morning routine, I combine the wisdom of gratitude, the mindfulness of Buddhism, and the dedication required for social work. How do you start your day? Share your morning rituals below! ??
