After day one madness at Cannes Lions, I thought I’d share some of the highlights the team and I captured with you over a croissant and an iced coffee. Grab one of your own and let’s dive right in.?
#SportBeach Run Club: While I would like to say that I started my day at the Stagwell Run Club, I actually started my day watching the highlights of the run on social, since extended jet lag got the best of me. Nevertheless, the run looked exhilarating and the Saucony shoes were colorful and on-trend. Same time tomorrow??
Convince Your C-Suite of the Real Impact of Creativity
The key to convincing senior stakeholders is to think of marketing as a tangible sales driver rather than a business disruptor. The ah-ha moment for the brand was to switch from grounding campaigns in insights to grounding them in fan truths, which means truths from real fans who love the brand. Examples shared included “the first restaurant you can afford to take your parents to” and “if abuela is doing school pickup, McDonald’s is in the cards.”?
Entertain or Die
Mike Cessario is perhaps the most on-brand brand leader that ever graced the stage of the Palais. Liquid Death employs an in-house creative team, made up of writers that operate like a SNL writing team writing sketch comedy. Their primary goal is to entertain consumers. And to do that they don’t focus on the functional benefits of their products. Cessario underscored the importance of testing and learning and producing volume in order to find the hits.?

Whose Job is it Anyway??
There were a lot of amazing conversations today at Sport Beach—but I had a front row seat to one of the most important (IMHO) since I had the pleasure of moderating a conversation between WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) legend Sue Bird , State Farm ’s Kristyn Cook , 万豪酒店 's Peggy Roe and 亚马逊 's Jo Shoesmith . Each of these women had powerful perspectives on the role brands play in driving equity in sport. I think Kristyn summed it up best when she said that progress will be undeniable when the conversation is not about women’s sports— but just sports.
