How You Can Join the #GivingTuesday Movement

#GivingTuesday is a social media phenomenon that is a global annual movement: it's a day to give. The Canadian movement began in 2013 and encouraged charities, organizations, and individuals to unite to share commitments and rally for favourite causes to make a difference in the lives of others.

?#GivingTuesday follows US Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 24.

Have you heard of #GivingTuesday??

#GivingTuesday is a relatively new movement; it began in 2012 in the US, and Canada adopted this practice in 2013. #GivingTuesday promotes giving and volunteering in whatever capacity you can and serves as a reminder of the great need in our communities.

This year on Tuesday, November 29, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students internationally will come together for one shared purpose: to celebrate generosity and give.?Giving back is part of our?social responsibility?that positively impacts society.

For many, it's a tradition year after year to shop to find great deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. We're hunting with friends and family to find that 'amazing deal.' On this notorious weekend, folks spend serious money on gifts for others and themselves.

The Impact of Joyful Giving

Marshall Connects Inc.?and I know how important it is to reach out, give back to others and make a difference. We are proud supporters of?Mohawk College. I worked at Mohawk College for 32 years. I've volunteered on the Mohawk Board of Governors and am currently the Vice Chair of the Mohawk College Foundation. I have witnessed the College's incredible impact on student's lives and our community.

On #GivingTuesday this year, Marshall Connects is donating 10,000.00 to the students at Mohawk. Mohawk College students face tremendous financial pressures. To ensure these incredible young people achieve balance in all parts of their educational experience, the?Mohawk College Foundation Gift Catalogue?provides ways to help students through tuition support, food, rent, child care, or unexpected financial hardship.

Giving back has always been one of my values and has positively framed my life. My book,?"Giving Back, How to Find Your Personal Joy and Make a Difference to Others,"?discusses the?critical impact of giving in my life.?The following is an excerpt from my book:

“A heart full of gratitude is a heart that gives. When we're grateful, we have a desire to give back, and in giving back, we find joy. We get because we give. Nothing material lasts. What endures are the relationships, the experiences, and the love. These are forever—the gifts that keep giving. Life is better when we are happy but even better when others are happy because of us. Each chapter of this book is about one aspect in the journey of life. Together, these aspects become an irrepressible force that should compel us to give back to the best of our ability. They add up to a culture of caring that can permeate our lives—in our families, in our workplaces, and in all our dealings with others along the way. Joyful giving will be an ongoing part of my journey; that I know for sure.”

This year on #GivingTuesday, I encourage you to make a difference and celebrate the day by joining this movement across Canada and worldwide to give back in any way you can.
