JT: ?What was the length of time you had been employed in software testing?

AE: I have 6 and a half years of experience in Automation testing

?

JT: What prompted you to make the shift from automation testing to your Java developer role and how did your software testing experience impact the decision?

AE: Simply put... curiosity. I Have been testing various new developments and being exposed to multiple platforms and I have been amazed at all the new developments that make our daily lives so much easier and I want to be a part of those developments.

?

JT: How has your experience in software testing shaped your understanding of software quality?

AE: During my time in Software Testing, I’ve learned to appreciate how much effort goes into everything we do in the quality assurance space. If you hear "Software Tester" most people think their only job is to find bugs, but it goes so much deeper. A software tester upholds quality and standards and because of my time in Automation testing I have learned to be much more careful during the developmental stage trying to account for everything I have learned during my time. I am also a lot more careful about keeping to a coding and a visual quality standard.

JT: What process improvements have you implemented in your role because of your testing experiences?

AE: One thing I have learned in my 6 and a half years is to implement a high degree of redundancy planning to a task before even attempting it. A stable and superior product is ensured by considering as many potential factors as possible. Another thing I follow religiously now is adhering to a coding standard to assure stability throughout everything I do.?

?

JT: What tips or tools would you give to someone who has been in the same testing role and is not sure how to make the transition?

AE: Find what piques your interest and curiosity, ask yourself questions like a toddler would (eg. why is this here? what does this do? why does this react the way it does?). I firmly believe that if you find that thing that makes you exited and that pushes you to want to learn more, you will never have to work a day in your life because you are doing what you love and what you have a passion for.
