John's Future of Work

John's Future of Work

I’ve worked remotely for about a decade and really couldn’t work any other way, so I guess Covid kind of normalized what I was already doing. Part of that is because I’m a consultant with multiple clients in addition to contributing to Forbes, so it just works better. And part of it is because time not spent on commuting can be spent getting more done … or taking a morning walk to get invigorated for the day.

That said, offsites, conferences, and other in-person meetings are really important for the deep, productive relationships that drive better innovation and collaboration, so I’m happy that we’re starting to adopt ways of working that incorporate both remote and in-person.

For me, the good thing that came out of the crazy few years we’ve had is an appreciation for the fact that different people work best in different ways, and that’s OK. A good team — and a smart company — maximizes the harmonious output of multiple people working to their top capacity in ways that match their temperament and personalities. I think we’ve gotten much better at that since 2020.
