John Webster The Movie.

John Webster The Movie.

Marc showed The Human Ad Man as part of an inspiring day at school yesterday. It was the first time our 36 students remained silent this year. You can often tell how great a piece is by the note-taking. I'm pretty sure all 36 imaginations and pads were filled. (Tarun even stayed awake.) Thank you to everyone below, especially the ever inspiring Patrick Collister, Chris Hill (watch out for his brilliant cameo) and The School Of Communication Arts 2.0 for creating essential viewing for original thinkers and doers to thrive on. I urge you to share it with as many creative folks and clients you know. Creating campaigns that run and run is something we all need more help doing. Long may his legacy remind us what's best to do and inspire us to try and do it.

NICK & TOM

Director Nick Werber and Cinematographer Tom Baker are a creative partnership with a background in filmmaking. While building a creative portfolio at the School of Communication Arts they spent much of their spare time planning, interviewing, filming and editing this documentary. It was a fantastic experience to meet many of the industry’s luminaries and learn about John Webster and his groundbreaking work. Now heading into placements at creative agencies, Nick and Tom look forward to learning more and making a real impact with their work.

David & Martins

We've been involved with this project from the very start. We were first asked just to re-edit the original footage Patrick took of John. But saw this as an opportunity and decided to push it as far as possible and create an actual documentary. We had a very clear idea of what we wanted to explore in this documentary: Is Webster’s work still relevant today? And do the real people on the street still remember his ads? For this we showed his ads to primary school children and blokes in a pub.

We hope you enjoy the film. To see more of our work go to GoodCop / BadCop.

GAVIN NASTILI

Gavin Nastilli is an art director with over 10 years experience as a cameraman. He has worked for most of the top channels including the BBC and has travelled the world doing so. During a busy year at the School of Communication Arts Gavin offered his time and expertise to help film the documentary. He especially loved meeting Dave Trott and discovering that ‘He is a Geeza!”.

Check out Gavin’s Portfolio here.

PATRICK COLLISTER

Patrick Collister has had an illustrious career in advertising, first as a Copywriter (he worked with John Webster for some years) and later as a Creative Director at Ogilvy. He began this film by interviewing John back in 2004. A great advocate of John Webster’s work, he hopes this film will pass on John’s wisdom to a new generation of creative people. Patrick currently works at Google.
