John Sebastian Update
John Sebastian
Consultant for KOAI and Desert Valley Media Group. Creator of The WOW Factor the hottest new-radio format in America.
On August 1, 50 years ago I was hired for my first job in radio, part-time at KPAM in Portland. Thus began my long strange journey of adventure, travel, joy, momentous challenges and accomplishment that has been the love of my life. It's ironic that I was recovering from back surgery back then, even still wearing a body cast when I started this first gig. And now, on this historic anniversary, at least for me, I'm again recovering, quite successfully, from a hospital stay coming back from an Ablation for AFIB, a heart rhythm issue. Although I'm enjoying my new career as a voice actor and would always continue pursuing it, I must admit I would jump back into programming radio, with yet another new format I've envisioned, if I found an operator in the Phoenix area that would be so bold to try something new. On a full signal, this format has the potential to be #1 6+, not only in this market but many locations across the nation. Peace out...

6 年In the Cleveland, Ohio market back in the 1990s it was the station who’s call sign was WENZ. It was at 107.9 FM on the dial. They referred to themselves as “The End.” It was the best 90s alternative rock station on the plant! And, it was the people who made the difference! Sorry for the long winded dissertation. By all means I encourage you to pursue your dreams. When it comes down to it, people matter most of all! Good luck!!

6 年John, I believe you have passion for what you’re trying to do. I admire that. The right format always matters. It’s why people listen and return the passion in kind. Unfortunately I do not own a group of radio stations. But I do understand where you’re coming from. Musically, I follow original old Delta Blues music. Over 1,000 songs currently in my Spotify app. I know the “Digital Thing” has impacted today’s listener. Years ago in the Youngstown/Warren DMA we had an AOR known as The Wizard. WSRD 101 FM. That station change their format in 1984 to Top 40. That call sign is currently being used by a station somewhere in New York State. But the programming they had was amazing. “Sunday Night Album Hour” reviewed new releases and play the entire album. As a high school age senior at the time I got my first taste and a lot of trivial details regarding Led Zeppelin‘s “In Through The Out Door.” The daily “4 O’clock High” featured a rock group of the day. What made the station especially great where the people! They knew their music and it showed.
