In this week's edition, Robert McHugh speaks to John Loughran, owner of the Sandymount Hotel, 'the largest independent family-run hotel in Dublin.'
John Loughran is the eldest son of the original owners George and Rosaleen Loughran. He studied in Trinity College, and qualified as a chartered accountant with PwC. He joined his brother in the hotel in 1990 and became sole owner in 1999.
Audrey, his wife of 37 years was a receptionist in the hotel. They have four children and their son Gerard works in the hotel as a director.
Loughran recently spoke to Hospitality Ireland about growing up in the hotel, his corporate background and his love for rugby.

The Chancery Opens In Dublin
The Chancery, a four-star hotel, has opened its doors on Ship Street Great, in Dublin 8.
The independent Irish-owned hotel has 150 bedrooms and is located just metres from the Dublin Royal Convention Centre and the Printworks at Dublin Castle.
The hotel aims to weave the history of Dublin through its very fabric, from locally reclaimed stone to the bespoke commissioned art on the walls, which tells the story of the city and some of its most iconic characters.
The Chancery has ambitions to be a new international meeting and digital hub in Dublin City Centre.

West Cork And Kenmare
This week, over 50 tourism businesses from West Cork and Kenmare attended a special Fáilte Ireland networking event in the Maritime Hotel, Bantry.
The event was organised by Fáilte Ireland to build collaboration across the tourism industry from West Cork and Kenmare, encouraging businesses to collaborate and cross-sell, to attract visitors and inspire them to explore the counties and all that they have to offer.
At the event, face-to-face networking sessions with over 300 appointments were facilitated among accommodation providers, visitor attractions, and activities, to provide them with the opportunity to forge new connections and renew old ones.

Flatley Whiskey: The Dreamer
Michael Flatley, the world-renowned Irish dancer, has announced the launch of his first signature Irish whiskey, Flatley Whiskey: The Dreamer, from a series of special blends.
Crafted in partnership with master blender Noel Sweeney and distilled at the Great Northern Distillery, this premium five-year-old whiskey aims to embody the ‘spirit of dreams, passion, and mastery.’
Priced at an RRP of €45, Flatley Irish Whiskey is now available in stores, bars and hotels across the island of Ireland.

Radisson RED Comes To Ireland
The Radisson Hotel Group has announced plans for its first Radisson RED hotel in Ireland, in Galway, within the Crown Square development, minutes from Galway’s city centre.
The new hotel will be a five-minute drive from Galway’s main train station, approximately one hour’s drive from Shannon Airport, and approximately a two-hour drive from Dublin City and Dublin Airport.
“Radisson RED is a great fit for our city, and we are looking forward to revealing the standout design and sophisticated offering in our hometown,” said Padraic Rhatigan, principal founder of the Rhatigan Group.
Radisson RED Galway will feature 177 rooms, each reflecting Radisson RED’s signature style and design.
