2022 International Symposium: Project Leadership in a Changing World
Our 2nd International Symposium on Project Leadership in a Changing World was held on Thursday November 3 & 10. Over 300 participants from around the globe attended – including academics, industry practitioners and representatives from government departments. Videos of the event in full and individual sessions clips are now available to watch on our website. The 3rd International Symposium on Project Leadership in a Changing World will take place on November 9 & 16, 2023.
Call for Papers – Special Collection: Project Leadership in a Changing World
Professor Jennifer Whyte, Dr Mehdi Rajabi Asadabi and Dr Nader Naderpajouh are seeking submissions for a special collection on Project Leadership in a Changing World in Project Leadership and Society journal. Papers investigating the role projects play in achieving outcomes for society, and how leadership enables these outcomes, will be accepted on a rolling basis until Friday 15 November, 2023.
9th International Megaprojects ‘Theory Meets Practice’ Workshop
Preparations are continuing for the 9th International Megaprojects ‘Theory Meets Practice’ Workshop – which the Institute and School of Project Management are hosting at the University of Sydney on April 3 & 4, 2023. The call for papers has now closed and was answered by academics from a range of fields domestically and internationally. The agenda is currently being developed and will be released in due course. We welcome you to join us to further the debate.
The Faculty of Engineering hosted the 1st Net Zero Initiative (NZI) Conference and 3rd Australian Circular Economy Conference at the University of Sydney on November 21-23. Over 600 researchers, students and industry professionals attended, in-person and online, to share expertise on decarbonisation technology. Professor Stewart Clegg receives AISWN Best Paper Award
Professor Stewart Clegg and his co-authors have received the Association for Information Systems Network College (AISWN) Best Paper Award for their publication “Watchers, Watched, and Watching in the Digital Age: Reconceptualization of IT Monitoring as Complex Action Nets” in Organization Science Journal. It was conferred at the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) 2022 Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark this month.
Dr Marzena Baker receives JCEM Best Paper Award
Dr Marzena Baker and her co-authors have received the Journal of Construction Engineering and Management (JCEM) 2022 Best Paper Award for their publication “Leadership Diversity and Its Influence on Equality Initiatives and Performance: Insights for Construction Management“. The study investigates whether gender-equality human resources initiatives and work–life initiatives are positively associated with leadership gender diversity.
Martina Huemann: The Power of Projects to Create a Better Future
WU Vienna University of Economics and Business’ Professor Martina Huemann visited on Tuesday, November 22 to present her insights on The Power of Projects to Create a Better Future. Her seminar discussed the challenges and opportunities of delivering infrastructure and offered stakeholder-orientation as an essential principle in contemporary Project Management.

Tim Broyd: Innovation and the Search for Low Carbon Buildings and Infrastructure
Professor Tim Broyd, founding director of University College London’s Institute for Digital Innovation in the Built Environment, presented his seminar Innovation and the Search for Low Carbon Buildings and Infrastructure on Thursday, November 17. He discussed the need for a consistent and long-term shift to ‘whole life thinking’ being a necessary attribute before real change can be made, and demonstrated how industry and government can closely together to meet the minimum needs of society.
Mark Dodgson AO: Innovation in Professional Services Firms
The University of Queensland and Imperial College London’s Professor Mark Dodgson AO visited on Monday, November 14 to share his expertise on Innovation in Professional Services Firms. His seminar discussed a study of PwC UK’s successful three-year transformational innovation program as it implemented digitally-led transformation to improve performance and better advise clients.
Institute’s social media footprint expands
There are now two more digital platforms to help you stay in touch the Institute. We have created a YouTube account, where you can find videos from events, such as symposiums, and learn about our history. Amidst uncertainty about the future direction of Twitter, we have also joined the Mastodon platform to diversify output sources. Updates will continue to be published on LinkedIn, Twitter and our website.
