John Good’s career in the international automotive sector spans over 30 years, having been associated with the Mercedes-Benz brand throughout this time. He has held senior management positions with Mercedes-Benz and LSH in Australia, Southeast Asia, Taiwan, China, and the UK, before advancing to his current position as Managing Director of LSH Group Australia.
Which philosophies have informed your leadership style?
“Authenticity is essential. Leading the country’s largest Mercedes-Benz retail group, with more than 500 employees, I’ve found that being genuine builds trust and fosters connections within your team.
It was similar when I was working in South-East Asia, Taiwan, China and the UK – experience has shown me that this builds strong, confident teams.”
What can leaders do to stay great?
“Great leaders know they don’t have all the answers – and that they need to harness the knowledge and skills of their team. They also understand the importance of professional development and take the time to learn about broader business and customer issues, which is particularly important in the fast-changing business landscape of today.”

How have changes in the automotive sector influenced how you lead? “I haven’t witnessed as major a shift in our industry as the move to electric vehicles. The industry has changed more in the past five years than it did in the previous 50. At LSH Auto, we’ve been focused on pushing beyond our comfort zone and forming leaders who can adapt to change. That personal display of agility needs to be fostered within teams, as it creates a workforce that can adapt to new technologies and consumer demands.”
How do you support your leadership teams to develop their staff? “We’ve worked hard to create a growth mindset where even the best can be improved. Throughout the year, we run several professional development programs that focus on authenticity, adaptability and agility. We believe it’s that attitude of continuous improvement that keeps us ahead of our competitors.”
What would you advise other business leaders who want to stay at the top of their game?“Leaders should help the team remain focused on areas of the business they can control. For us, it means ensuring we have a great team that can deliver an unmatched customer experience and build trust in the LSH Auto brand. Achieving excellence is not the final destination. Continual improvement and adaptability, together with staying true to your core values, will make the difference.
