John Brewer Tavern, Circa 1770
We are nearing the end of the restoration and renovation of 37 Cornhill Street in Annapolis, MD. This historic structure, originally a tavern, built in the 1770's, has undergone many?transformations over the last 245 years. The last major change?saw a wall divide 37 & 39?and?is situated in the?middle of what was a central stair over 60" in width (picture above). Jefferson boarded his horses in the stable behind, whose foundation was uncovered when the garden work was performed. The Maryland Historic Trust holds easements over the interior and exterior, and with a period of significance that spans from inception to present, the addition of a new entry porch proved challenging.?Gemma de la Fuente, principal of Citadel DCA, was the project architect.
