JOE WHO? The best sales person ever?

JOE WHO? The best sales person ever?

I found some notes from an old training course the other day and it is surprising how dramatically technology has changed. But the actual process of selling. Is still very much the same. We’ve just given funky names like customer, success to the same processes that have always been there.

Joe Girard is a legend in the sales world. He is the Guinness Book of World Records' Greatest Salesperson, having sold over 13,000 cars in a single year. Girard is known for his simple but effective system for closing sales.

The five steps to Girard's system are:

  1. Build relationships.?Girard believed that the foundation of any successful sales career is strong relationships. He took the time to get to know his customers and build trust with them.
  2. Understand the customer's needs.?Girard was a master at understanding what his customers were looking for. He would ask questions and listen carefully to the answers.
  3. Present the solution.?Once Girard understood the customer's needs, he would present the solution that he believed would best meet those needs.
  4. Overcome objections.?Girard knew that there would always be objections to his sales pitches. He was prepared to answer any questions or concerns that his customers might have.
  5. Follow up.?Girard never left a sale up to chance. He would follow up with his customers after the sale to make sure that they were happy with their purchase.

Girard's system is simple but effective. It can be used by salespeople in any industry to close more sales.

Here are some additional tips for using Girard's system:

  • Be genuine. Customers can spot a fake from a mile away. Be yourself and let your personality shine through.
  • Be persistent. Don't give up on a sale just because you get a no. Keep following up until you get a yes.
  • Be positive. A positive attitude is contagious. If you're excited about what you're selling, your customers will be too.
