Joe Manning Appointed President Of Appeals For The IGBF

Tesco?Ireland commercial director Joe Manning has been named president of appeals for the?Irish Grocers’ Benevolent Fund?(IGBF). Manning will succeed outgoing president Kevin Keating, of Tennant & Ruttle, who has been in the role for past 12 months. Following the announcement, Manning said, “It’s my honour to serve as president of appeals of the IGBF for 2023. Throughout my career in the industry, the IGBF has been an integral part of the retail landscape, providing essential help to those in need.

Sainsbury's, Britain's second largest supermarket group, has set aside a further £50 million to keep a lid on prices, taking a hit to its margin as it absorbs some of the pain of a worsening cost-of-living crisis. Both Sainsbury's and market leader Tesco?have?warned of a drop in profit?this year as soaring inflation raises their costs, hurting their margins, while at the same time hitting shoppers' spending power. Britain's supermarkets are generally not passing on to consumers all of the cost price inflation they are seeing which is lowering their profits.

Coca-Cola?has announced that it has once again partnered with?FoodCloud?and FareShare for?Christmas. The aim of this year’s initiative is to ‘redistribute over 143,000 meals across Ireland and?Northern Ireland’. Suzanne Delaney, development director of FoodCloud, said,?“Christmas this year will be significantly more expensive for families across?Ireland, and with one in every nine people in Ireland living on an income below the poverty line, we are working to help those who need it most.”
