#jobseekers: How should you answer the question "Are you interviewing with other firms" during a second or third interview with a company?

By Dominic Connor, journalist

It depends on who is asking and you need to be ready for the most likely follow up questions.

If it’s a recruiter, do not tell them. Really, just don’t, they will use this information to pitch candidates against you at that firm. That is not to your advantage at all.

If it is the employer then the most likely next question is what would make you choose us over them ?

This is the start of the negotiation process so you need to mention compensation along with the nature of the work, quality of the firm and the rank they intend to recruit for.

They will also be interested in what you’ve learned about them, but do not share anything sensitive as it sends the message that you will share their proprietary information as well.

They also will be interested in the spread of jobs you are going for, since if they are too widely spread it may indicate that you’re not committed to a specific kind of job.
