Job Well Done ... How do You Celebrate?
Recently, I was at a client site and asked 12 managers in a board meeting if they had any performance successes they could share. I then asked them to immediately write down two things. First, I asked them if they made a dedicated effort to bring in the people who performed well and thank them for their effort. The second question I asked was did any of you celebrate or have some type of an event celebration for the performance or job well done? Shockingly, both questions yielded a less than 30% success. What this means is less than 30% of the time the managers brought the employee in or celebrated the job well done. What a missed opportunity. What if an employee did a job well done in the manager celebrated in front of the rest of the team? What a great message to send the other employees as well as fellow managers including upper-level management.
