Meet Tracey Davies, President at Money20/20. I have had the pleasure of knowing Tracey since 2019 as Money20/20 was a client of mine. She is a true leader and one of the woman I am constantly inspired by.
As such, I am so pleased to announce to the entire Tech Tuesday family that I have officially joined Money20/20 as the Chief Strategy and Growth Officer. Below is a pic from me on the main stage in Vegas from 2019.
I am so excited about this new role and what the Money20/20 can accomplish for 2021 and beyond. For those of you who haven't heard of Money20/20, it is the pinnacle event in the financial services industry and is the place where you go to connect, learn and be inspired. I am thrilled to be able to bring all the experience I have across the industry to make all the Money20/20 products, be they physical or digital, even stronger for our customers. Listen in as Tracey and I speak about the reinvention of live events and why we are so excited about Money20/20 moving forward.
#TechTuesday Highlight #92: Tracey Davies, President Money20/20
How/why did you get into your space?
My background was as a magazine publisher so background is firmly media - I'm old enough to say that was print magazines back in the day and then digital. I spent a lot of my career taking print brands digital and diversifying business to business media brands into multi platform properties. Events are a key part of b2b media brands offering. Just prior to M2020, I was running Retail Week- the bible for retailers and that involved some big events and when Ascential bought Money20/20 I moved over to run it.
What role do you play in the tech ecosystem and why is that role important?
Money20/20 exists to connect all the parts of the ecosystem- that is what makes it unique, it was the first event to do so and it does it at scale globally. It's important as partnerships are critical and getting that diversity together is key. So many deals that you see and hear of started from an encounter at Money20/20 - we are very proud of that.
How has technology impacted your industry and why is this important?
Tech is at the heart of the money revolution - Money20/20 is a very modern business in that respect- we only exist because the digital economy exists. Back in 2012 when M2020 started of course tech was important but today we are a money tech show.
What do you believe is the most exciting tech trend for 2021 (as it relates to your industry)?
The exciting thing about this industry is there are probably 10 we could pick but I think the steep change in crypto, ie the mainstream acceptance in the past 12 months, has been really interesting and seeing companies like PP/ MC Visa now investing heavily is interesting and linked is the debate around CBDC- that is really heating up, its an exciting global race with a country and corporate dimension, it's going to be fascinating to see how that plays out.
Who is a person that inspires you in the space and why?
Tough question- I'm gonna pick two. Ann Boden at Starling, such a interesting business and journey and I find her personally inspirational - and Dan Schulman at PP, PP one of the first equal pay companies, who just always seems to do the right thing and live that purpose leads to great results, really smart M&A too.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to get into your space?
Be prepared to roll your sleeves up and get stuck in - events is a true team sport, I might be on stage in front of 5000 people one minute talking the big picture, the next it will be lugging boxes behind the scenes to get stuff done or door control at one of our incredible evening events- you do what you have to do, we work all year to deliver 3 or 4 days of magic, for those days we work 6 very very very late days, we have one chance to deliver every year.
Anything else we should know about you or you want to include?
We don't just do events- for us Covid allowed us to take the step we have wanted to take for a long time and to extend the brand all year round. With roughly 200,000 subscribers to our podcast - over 12,000 tuned into Moneyfest and we have hosted thousands on our digital networking platform- this is the area I am so excited to be working with you on Scarlet.t
There is also the reinvention of Live- we love live events you can't replace everything digitally and customers tell us that - we spent Covid reimagining a new Money20/20 for a new era of Fintech- our industry didn't just speed up, there is a real shift again and we have redesigned Money20/20 for that- more Collisions, more conversations, we are hosting Fintech's Hive mind - let the magic happen.
