Mike’s Leadership Advice:

Influence: the power to affect, control or manipulate someone in a manner which causes them to change their?thoughts, conduct or decisions.

John Maxwell?says that "Leadership is Influence.?True leadership cannot be awarded, appointed, or assigned. It comes only from influence, and that cannot be mandated. It must be earned. The only thing a title can buy is a little time - either to increase your level of influence with others or to undermine it.”

The origin of the word "influence" in Latin literally means "flow into" such as a stream of water. If we really want to influence people we have to "flow into" their?lives. Social Influencers do this everyday through Social?Media in an attempt to get us to purchase certain?products. News outlets?use Announcers, Hosts, and Guests to "flow into" the lives of their?audiences in order to sway their?political?views and opinions.

Here?are a few things that influence?our Influence as Leaders:

1. Who We Are.?What is on the inside will eventually?"flow" out of us. The character, integrity, morals and values of a Leader matter.

2. Who We Know.?Relationships?matter. They build trust, loyalty, commitment?and consistency within an organization.

The better a Leader knows people, the better he will be able to lead them.

3. What We Know.?Leaders?need to know what is happening within the organization. Knowledge?of every?detail is not possible but we have to be aware of what is truly happening. Learn first, then Lead.

4. What We Feel.?Leaders are aware of the morale and energy within an organization. They feel compassion, empathy, sadness and joy along with their?people. They know when people need a hug, a high five or a little push.

We have to "flow into" people's lives if we expect to lead them. Too many Leaders have built dams between?themselves and the people they lead. When Leaders keep all the water behind the dam and never allow anything to flow downstream, everything below the dam dies. Don't be a Dam Leader. Keep Flowing. Keep Leading. MM
