NO JOB IS SMALL MY SON!

NO JOB IS SMALL MY SON!

I set up my first business when I was 18. It was a one man show, but needed smart talent to survive. Through friends and family, I met with an ex-google who was interested and agreed to freelance. We delivered digital solutions to our clients and I expanded by collaborating with similar individuals.

6 Months in to it, I was offered a temporary job. A job that would get me in to the aviation industry, which was something I dreamt of when I had enrolled myself for an aviation course at the age of 15. I was the youngest in class, but that isn't the highlight here. I failed my first attempt but my dream to be a part of the aviation industry didn't fizzle out. I took the offer without understanding the job and not sure when I had applied for it!

Day 1 of the job, I was asked to join the supervisor at a warehouse where I would be briefed. Excited, I couldn’t wait to start. After the briefing session, I subtly took off my tie and jacket, pulled up my sleeves and carried cartons packed with loyalty cards, card sleeves and gifts. Understood what a fulfillment executive does for a living. This was boot camp - 30 minute lunch break, 10 minute tea break, monitored restroom breaks and the loyalty cards had to be neatly packed and couriered to the cardholder.

I spent 2 days emptying my tear ducts wondering if that was what I deserved after all the hard work and education.

With multiple sources of income (Dance Artist & Business), I didn’t need to stick around but then "NO JOB IS SMALL my son", said my father at that time. It took me a while to understand it then, but that one sentence was the beginning of a paradigm shift for me.

Day 3 I was motivated to go to work. Fresh and content with what I was doing. My perception changed and it got me to think that “I was working for one of the biggest airline’s, that caters to over million people in the world. If I had not done this job for the next 27 days, someone somewhere in the world would not receive his/her loyalty card and they wouldn't get to enjoy an upgrade”. Now how bad is that!?!

During this period I won South India’s first reality dance program and got a little famous since the show was broadcasted on TV. This didn't change anything for me, but the supervisor asked me why I was doing this job and when I explained my thought process to him, he couldn't stop smiling. Guess it inspired him or he thought I was playing dumb.

Work kept increasing as some of the individuals quit and we had to stay late. I was so passionate that I wouldn’t want to stop till we reached our daily targets. On the last day of my job, I was requested to do a dance performance for my colleagues and that video still floats around the internet.

Life had changed after this transformation. I learned how important it is to be passionate, humble and dream BIG!

After a month, I got a call to join the Corporate Communications department at the very same company. Another dream come true as I was going to be part of a much more relevant department that would benefit my career within the aviation industry.

That's about it for now. Thank you for taking time out to read this bit of my life. I've not shared this with many, but I hope this will inspire you to DREAM BIG and be PASSIONATE about what you do.
