Job Seekers vs Recruiters. The Beginning

Part 1

The Job Seeker

Job seeking can be very stressful, demotivating and even demoralizing.

When people face difficult times, they tend to seek ways out they would not accept themselves before they come face to face with cold reality of life.

Seeking work is one of those things that can change people, their perspective of others but most of all can damage person self-worth.

When the times are hard and job market is dry people turn to be rather more pessimistic and see danger in every small mistake whether it is at work or in personal life. Those feelings can affect the person logical reasoning and cloud their sense of responsibilities. There are many types of people that could be in same or similar category:

People that believe harsh reality is something that does not concern them

People that expect things to come to them without putting extra efforts or even those that believe they did their part.

Those type of approaches could control the way people react when they face the challenges of rejections and eventually a failure. People are molded to achieve success, fail at times, make mistakes, learn things, build things yet at times of hardship people are more prominent to give up, demotivate themselves and occasionally others and more often lose self - confidence.

LinkedIn is one of those platforms that tend to be motivating and engaging but it can also demoralize and demotivate people and their trust in it. Reason being - many people seek the easiest way to things and that comes not only with job hunting or business seeking ventures but generally life. It is easy to just send someone your CV with a long paragraph that contains zero valuable information for the recipient at that moment. Recipients can develop aversion to such messages and unsolicited CV's and decide not to entertain the person or even open included in that message attachments. Even worse are those messages that are pastiche or unsavory. Job seekers that overly express their desperation in such way reverse they chances of positive feedback and possible prospect in securing simple interview.]

Part 2

The Recruiter

Recruitment is a challenging and demanding role that not only have responsibilities to two side of the table but also to its own.

Recruitment is not easy.

There is a wide pool of available people seeking work, there are job seekers that can match the technical part but are weak in soft skills and vice versa. There are job seekers that possess great experience, good emotional sense but lack the willingness to go that extra mile. There are also those that simply take for granted their owns and recruiter time. For some recruiters the feeling of disappointments, annoyance and even sadness comes with ignorance of that small yet so tremendously strong mistake such as sharing CV that is irrelevant to the advertised Vacancy.

The reactions of job seekers that are not actual but mutually painful.

First impression can impact the chance of success.

People tend to be judgmental when things does not go their way, or when they feel they did not receive a fair treatment but have failed to look at the other side of the coin. Sometimes when recruiter refuse to help is not because they are heartless or careless but because either they do not have any suitable position for that person or failed to understand the content of the CV that lacked personal statement. Another demoralizing thing a job seeker can do is to write a post about recruiters’ approach and their response or lack of it which can impact further the chances of job search when the reasoning of the situation is just not there. Taking as an example a blank message with attached file that could contain malicious virus is not a great way to receive any type of response from the recipient. Sometimes even if a person receives a response it can go badly for both parties. It is not easy to be a job seeker, but it is not easy to be a recruiter either. Social media platforms can be very helpful but can do as much harm as good. One emotional outburst that lack thoughts to it can impact the way future employer, business partners and others can view the person and his/her capabilities.

Part 3

The Answer

No answer is the right answer and no answer is the wrong answer.

Job seekers can only try to be more realistic and less tenacious and demanding of things that normally is not possible from day 1. Building career does not mean having a better title or a few pennies in bank account. It is having a good sense of what healthy culture and healthy environment of the company can do in the longer run. Understanding whether person own personality would match the personalities that are already in the culture. This would apply even if the company is restructuring or looking for fresh mind, the goal of person should at least be close to the goal of the company and its leadership.

There are many ways to avoid irritating the recipients such as recruiters, HR personnel, or even a random connection.

One is to understand what the person does, what field or sector that person works and whether that person could actually help from logical point of view.

Two is to understand how interactions with potential link should look like, what are the usual response of people that received same or similar message. Work on improving the skills of starting the conversation, rather than just dropping the CV or long message or both.

Three understand that people may misunderstand the message due to many different factors; they could have a bad day, they are under tremendous amount of stress, they have been offended before by someone else that started the conversation in the same way and the list can go on.

Four is staying positive and determined which would win over all the techniques anyone can talk about. Listening to the responses and results and preparing for the next move.

Wonderful insights there for both job seekers and recruiters alike Iwona Bokinczuk

Job seeking is really mind blowing. However, recruiting to me is more time draining than job seeking, both parties just need to always be in their right mindset for things to move on well. A great share Iwona Bokinczuk
