Job Seekers: Stand Out with Storytelling

Job Seekers: Stand Out with Storytelling

Edition #24 - The Storyteller's Spotlight Newsletter

Tomorrow is August 1st, 2024.

The 8th month of the year.

Consider this your wake-up call.

Storytelling is not reserved for books, movies, or the boardroom.

It is universal.

It is all around us.

There's storytelling in art.

There's storytelling in music.

There's storytelling in comedic performances.

There's storytelling in dance.

(I'll stop here)

At the heart of storytelling is the potential to connect with someone at a deep, personal level.

We share a piece of ourselves with the world.

Striving for this connection makes us human.

Most of the 8 Billion people on this planet have no idea about the power of their story.

And with all the layoffs happening and millions unemployed around the world...

There's no better time or place to learn to tell your story than during the job search.

Why?

You're trying to stand out amongst the hundreds to thousands of applicants.

You don't want to be just another number or resume that looks like the rest.

If you're not telling stories about who you are, your character, and the value you bring...

You are selling yourself short.

I'm not talking about your answer to questions such as

"Tell me how you handle multiple priorities?"

I'm talking about your defining leadership stories.

The moments of struggle and adversity.

The times when you felt alone or defeated.

The experiences that shaped who you are today.

Maybe you aren't aware of them...

Or you don't know how to tell them...

Or you don't have enough confidence...

Either way...

You will have plenty of opportunities to stand out with your storytelling:

?? LinkedIn profile and Headline

?? Elevator pitch

?? Resume and Cover Letter

?? Interview Q&A

Learning how to confidently tell these stories will help you connect, influence, and inspire anyone.

Remember:

Bad leadership and ineffective communication cost companies millions of dollars each year. (source: Inc)

? You can be part of the solution.

Being the solution will only make you more in demand...

Jessica, a recent client landed a senior-level product role after just 7 weeks in my job seeker storytelling program. She had been trying to stand out for 8 months but had no success getting interviews or offers. That changed once she knew what stories to tell and how to tell them during the job search.

Once you know how to tell your story, the power is limitless.

Everyone has a story to tell.

Very few know how to tell it.

Even fewer know how to tell it to get hired faster.

Until now.

Since I became at least competent with storytelling it has opened so many doors and relationships. It's really a huge change that is noticeable when you get better at it. Great share, David Ghodsizadeh ??
