There was a great speech delivered by Steve Jobs in 2005 that I was reminded of by a colleague that ironically enough was just separated from his role as a Senior Executive in Technology.? While this “reel” was passed through my social media DM string the impact it had on my day reminding me of many key aspects of my current path and some I need to reinforce to grow.?
I will list the key outtakes below and reveal something that I have not come out and said because of the “new norm” perceptive eyes that judge us from afar and LABEL us….? I have not had a mainstream job for over 400 days now but live comfortably casually consulting every day.? I got really aggressive in my job search and since I had not been without a job for well over a decade and before that a decade as well the landscape changed.? As you look through this Social Business Platform there are sad stories including one where a 61-year-old executive recently chose to end his life due to the cycle of unemployment he endured for over a year.?? As a process expert by trade, I delved into the processes and did the Resume Carousell and the Key Word Targets as well as tapping my network.? Nothing of note came to pass and the daily scroll through LinkedIn became this US vs THEM with Seekers blaming Recruiters and Talent Acquisition people.? The Recruiters and Talent folks daily are defending themselves as the Seekers communicate the horror of their plight.?
I say that to reveal the current state of what I am today to which I am really proud of and some of my stance and path forward are found in the words below from Steve Jobs that I embraced years ago.? Quite frankly due to my frustrations which were not due to recruiters or talent folks but my inability to somehow crack the code.? Therefore my “keep moving forward” meant diving into the consulting game and as I stated in an earlier article I now stand to make more than my former job…..? I did not give up and by no means am implying that I would no longer wish to regain the corporate workforce, but I will do it through the ongoing branding of ME through this platform and others.? A friend said to me, you are going scorched Earth stating “here I am, come get me” thinking that will work in today’s market???? I said that I did not think of it that way but at end of day I guess I am and I am fine with that.? I do not wear the labels our society bestows on us and seems to want to do to put everyone in a “group”, NO THANKS, if I have to be a group of one then so be it.

Steve Jobs died six years after the event where he challenged a group of Stanford graduates that are now well into their forties!! ?Many are fearful of working independently to which in my life is currently a necessity and is much like Hire Wire Walking without a net which is exciting too, ?should be in the X Games!?? ?Keep Moving Forward and where there is no road in sight, BUILD ONE!!!?
