Recruiter Tips for Job Seekers: Do Your Research

My biggest tip to Job Seekers is do your research! Don't reach out to all the recruiters at the company you're targeting, hoping to find the right one by trial and error.

Here's a strategy I have used myself, and also have had it used on me. I appreciate the diligence it takes to go these extra steps, and it will make a difference in your response rate.

  1. Find the job you want on the company's career page or LinkedIn Page
  2. Apply to the opening that matches your experience
  3. See if the #LinkedIn job post is connected to a specific recruiter and reach out directly with a note mentioning your interest and application (please make sure your profile is relevant to the role to increase your chance of a response)
  4. If it's not, start looking up recruiters at that company, and see if you can determine what roles they're working on by scrolling their posts or reviewing their own job description on their profile. Often, recruiters will state what they're working on to make it easier for prospects to find.
  5. Reach out to the right recruiters with a message that makes sense for them to open

From personal experience, recruiters are often flooded with messages for jobs that they aren't working on, so stand out from the crowd by messaging us in regards to a role you know we are working on. With a little extra digging, you can make your job search more impactful and time efficient.

Remember, when you lead with intention - you're more likely to achieve the positive results you want.

Happy Job Hunting!
