Job Security Myth

Since I graduated form University, I was always looking for a dream job. A job with generous financial package, benefits, motivating culture, enriching experience and most importantly a SECURE job! A sustainable job that I can build long term career and financial plans

After 20 years of experience, I figured out that secure jobs are only available in the dreams! I have seen colleagues who have been awarded "Top performers awards" to be called the second day for a layoff call!! People who used to be on the top of recognition list and media news, then fired the very next day. I have even seen a whole Department, Division or function layoff in a blink of eye

People tends to stay into their comfort levels and to believe that they will never face this situation ... Reality is different

Here are some tips that helped me in being prepared for such scenarios and made the impact less harmful

• Be always ready for a change! As per the say " Change is the only Constant". You will never have a guarantee that your job in not touchable
• Keep developing yourself and diversify your experience. With the huge knowledge database, channels and sources there is no excuse whatsoever to stop learning
• Keep good relationship with everybody as much as you can. This should come out of your ethics and being good and not out of short or log term interest
• Leave with good terms! This is a small world and you may always come back
• Diversify your income sources and have always plan B and even plan C
• Believe in GOD and have a great faith! He will be always there to help you. Good people won't be left alone
