RESUMES
Resumes are sooooooo SUBJECTIVE.
What I like about your resume, my colleague could hate.
What I love about your background, the hiring manager might find to be a red flag.
There is no way for you to create a resume that all recruiters, hiring managers and HR folks will all agree is spot on for the job.
So, my suggestion is to create the resume that represents your best story and go with that one.
You could work with a resume writer or with others to create your ideal resume, but stop stressing about creating a magical version.
Create a resume that tells the best story about your work experience.
Tell me what you can do and what you will bring to a company.
You can have gaps in your resume, you can have 3 jobs in 3 years and you can change careers.
The resume just needs to tell your story and how you explain any of these things.
Recruiters don't spend a ton of time looking at your resume.
We search very quickly for the skill set we need you to have for the job.
If we don't see it or have to search for it, then we move to the next resume.
It is as simple as that.
If you don't have that skill set, then you better have some way to tell me why I should look at your resume.
The only time that I will truly dig deep into your resume is if you and I schedule time to talk.
If we don't, then I'm only going to do the super fast quick glance searching for the desired skill set.
I wish I could tell you that Recruiters will spend 10 minutes staring thoroughly at your resume, but we just won't.
The best advice that I can give you is this: If you want to apply for a job that you don't have the skill set for, then you need to have a staffing agency, a network connection, a friend or a family member forward your resume to the company.
If you have the skill set, then apply on your own and hope that the company loves your resume just the way it is.
