Job Search in May: Be Your True Self

2024 is undoubtedly the employer's market - repeated layoffs in many industries have led to a larger talent pool of job seekers and companies that are reluctant to hire.

So, where does it leave you? It puts you in a position where you must deal with:

? High competition

? Lower compensations

? Extended hiring process, and

? Strict qualification and skills requirements

And just when you think this is too much, remember that you are a unique professional, and you certainly can find a place even in these difficult circumstances. The key is to be yourself and be AUTHENTIC. That's your best shot. Automated job searches and applications using AI (aiApply, Sonara, Agilus...) became very popular this year. AI can certainly help you craft your job search materials or interview questions, and you should definitely use it.

BUT - remember that these AI application platforms rely on the numbers game that works best for those after junior positions. For mid- and senior-level professionals, blasting hundreds of applications with a bot is ineffective because these roles require much more than a specific skill set, and the hiring process is more complicated.

Also, AI-powered bots that apply instead of you ("resume spammers") collect and keep personal data, and many users don't even know how their data is used. Keep this privacy issue in mind.

So (ironically) AI made it easier than ever to apply for a job, but it seems harder than ever to actually land one.

The main reason is the lack of personalised outcomes and the opportunity to stand out among the high competition. Resumes look the same, with generic phrases that tell nothing about the candidate's unique skills or professional results. I worked with many people whose AI-written resumes lacked information about their professional results and accomplishments, their impact in their previous roles, or their leadership ability. You must avoid this at all costs.

Every job seeker is unique and has an exceptional professional value to offer to employers. Your resume and your LinkedIn profile should reflect YOU and YOUR UNIQUE VALUE. This is the only way to distinguish yourself from the sea of others and get invited to the interview.

The humans are sitting on the other side of the table, and you should always keep them in mind -when applying or when interviewing. Show them your best and authentic self.

Remember - your authenticity is your most powerful weapon.

When applying for a job, certain attributes will provide a competitive edge - demonstrating respect for the employer, understanding accepted protocols and processes, and showcasing a genuine desire to contribute to a team. One key attribute that often goes overlooked is authenticity. Authenticity, or the quality of being genuine and true to oneself, is a crucial factor that can significantly enhance your application.
