Ever found yourself stuck while typing the message for Job Referrals?

It is because as humans, we do not like to be in the receiving end.

It happens to the best of us! But don't you worry, because in this edition, we will be understanding the science of successful referrals and how they are everything but a favour.

Simple Ways to Ask for Job Referrals

Asking for job referrals can feel like you're asking for a favor.

But it doesn't have to be that way.

For a client, we found a smart twist to make it easier. And it worked.

Here's what you can do:

Start with a Chat About Work

Begin by talking about the latest news in your work area. This makes the conversation interesting.

It also leads people to ask you, "What are you working on?"

This question opens the door for you to talk about jobs and referrals naturally.

Invite for a 1:1 Interview

This is by far the most effective way to connect with any professional.

Everybody loves recognition. We all love to be invited to share our experience.

The interview could be a LinkedIn Live event or just a zoom call that could be recorded.

Once you are in the top section of their call book/calendar, your chances increase multifold. Invite for a 1:1 Interview

Understanding Referral Bonus

Almost all the companies out there are extending referral bonuses.

So when you are approaching an existing employee for referral & you have a great Resume with the right fit, you are actually helping the employee earn extra bucks.

Referral Bonuses are generally set around 100-150% of monthly salary for the role.

Easy Referral Tips

Here are some simple steps to ask for referrals without making it awkward:

  • Look for Referrals on LinkedIn: Type "Referral + company name" in LinkedIn's search. This helps you find companies looking for referrals.
  • Send Friendly Invites: When you add new people to your network, send them a nice note. Make it feel personal.
  • Talk to People Inside the Company: Make friends with people who already work in the company. They can tell you about jobs that aren't listed yet.
  • Ask Gently at the End of a Chat: After a good talk, you can gently ask if they know about any job openings. Make it sound casual, not like you're only talking to them for the job info.

Hope this helped :)
