Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is currently seeking multiple Traffic Safety Systems Operator 3s (TSSO) to perform a variety of functions to keep traffic and goods moving efficiently through the Olympic Region (OR). TSSOs utilize several electronic communications systems to receive, transmit, and coordinate roadway conditions and service requirements to internal (Incident Response, Maintenance, Public Information Officers) and external (Washington State Patrol, travelling public) stakeholders. Decisions made by this position affect the safety and flow of traffic on the freeway and the adjacent arterial systems. This position supports WSDOT’s mission by operating the region’s Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and using a variety of communications tools to quickly and accurately relay information to region managers/administrators, the traveling public, and the media regarding traffic impacts, emergencies, and routine maintenance activities.
