Job title: Quantity Surveyor
Based: Porthmadog
The project
This large tunnelling project is over £200 million in value. It's a supply tunnel project by National Grid in Wales. The project is part of the Visual Impact Provision project in the Snowdonia National Park near Porthmadog in the north of the country. This seven-year project will see the construction of two shafts and 3.4 kilometres tunnel to carry electricity under an Estuary. The project has been developed to reduce the visual impact of National Grid’s overhead line across the estuary
This is a site based role
The role
The project requires a Quantity Surveyor who will work as part of an integrated team focusing on commercial activities such as monthly reporting, valuations, variations, subcontract documents, risk, opportunity and forecasting.
The candidate
You will be qualified or working towards degree level or equivalent in quantity surveying with a desire to learn and undertake self-development. Ideally, you will have a couple of years relevant experience in a commercially focused environment and understand the importance of working in a timely and accurate manner.

Duties
Preparing and submitting monthly valuations
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of project(s) contractual and commercial requirements
Weekly site measures & site liaison for records of events
Demonstrate a thorough understanding and competent execution of the monthly reconciled values and updated forecasts
Costing and submitting variations

Keeping all commercial registers up to date
Working in a commercial team on a large civils project
Performing Value management and cost control.
Reporting to head office as per commercial timelines
Arranging payments and valuing completed work.
Subcontractor payment review and approval
Candidate requirements
Large civils project experience
It is essential that you have a background in civil engineering contracts and strong negotiation and communication skills,
All applicants must be able to work well under pressure / to tight deadlines and you should have an excellent understanding of NEC3 / NEC4 forms of contract
In depth knowledge or different kinds of civil engineering projects such as roads, groundworks, earthworks, bridges, paving, drainage etc and a strong technical knowledge of the civil engineering / construction industry.
