Job Boards Increasing Application Transparency
A soft job market has contributed to long job search processes and heightened incidents of ghosting. In a single quarter, 14 million job applications were entirely ignored. Further, post-interview ghosting was up 9% compared to 2023 (61% of job seekers were ghosted after a job interview in 2024).
To combat these practices, several job boards are implementing new functions that encourage application transparency. LinkedIn has released “responsiveness insights” on job postings. Each job posting will share the company’s average application review and response time.
Greenhouse is testing a similar program with four employer badges: respectful, communicative, prepared, and fair hiring process standards. To gain each badge, employers must meet requirements such as sending rejection emails, anonymizing resumes, and requesting proper name pronunciation.
New AI technology for recruiters could also help encourage a transparent and communicative hiring process. To some extent, the rise in ghosting can be attributed to AI-powered applications. Due to the influx of these applications, recruiters’ workload increased by 26% last quarter.
LinkedIn and Indeed have begun testing new technology to help make the recruiting process more efficient. LinkedIn’s job match feature will share an applicant’s fit for the role, while Indeed is offering AI automated messaging for application confirmation, rejections, and interview scheduling.
These new programs are positive indicators of the renewed focus on efficiency, transparency, and respect in the job hunt process. They will aid recruiters and job seekers alike with streamlined communication.
