Job or Mission?
At some point in our human existence, we must decide on our path. Be it personal, professional, or a concert of both. There’s much to be learned from our experiences, predecessors, and those right now doing their life’s best work. There’s a clear distinction between having a job and being on a mission. It’s said that we are called to the work that we do. That jobs are simply a means to an end. When we work at a job, we are perhaps only doing so to fulfill a need. Bills need to be paid, families need to be fed, our basic needs must be fulfilled, etc.? On the other hand, when we are on a mission, we’re doing work that fulfills us on a much deeper and intrinsic level.? Perhaps, our mission doesn’t pay well or maybe it does, but we are doing work that’s meaningful and moves the needle towards societal progress. Our mission calls us to be in service to others. Our mission is a selfless endeavor that we pursue with passion, compassion and hope.
If I’m being completely honest, I’ve had jobs. Jobs that supplemented my income, ones that I knew were below my skill and educational level, jobs that paid below my worth, and jobs that weren’t fulfilling nor mission driven. I believe we’ve all experienced having jobs in our lives, but in reality, these jobs were necessary! They fulfilled a current need, they taught us that we deserve more, and they prepared us for all the good that lies ahead.?
I believe we all have a purpose in life. Our purpose spans across our faith and the lives we hope to change for the better. If you’re currently working in a job, my hope for you one day soon is that you find your mission and chase after it with vigor and an unwavering sense of enthusiasm and endearment.
