The Job Market Evolution – June 2022

2022 is halfway over. Amid an ongoing jobs recovery, a prominent job market reshuffle and experts signaling a recession, the job landscape continues to make strides to return to pre-pandemic levels. With 372,000 jobs gained, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) June 2022 jobs report surpassed Dow Jones’ 250,000 estimate. Year-to-date, the job market grew by 2.7 million jobs. Status of the Jobs Recovery

With a 3.6% national unemployment rate and 5.9 million people unemployed in June 2022, the data is similar to the respective 3.5% and 5.7 million recorded in February 2020. According to the BLS, the professional and business services sector gained 74,000 jobs in June 2022 and has 880,000 more jobs compared to February 2020. In the similar job category of business professional, Rose International saw a 4% month-over-month increase in job openings.

The BLS’ recent Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) found there were 11.3 million job openings, resulting in nearly two jobs available for each unemployed individual. In 2021, job openings reached a series high following the series high of layoffs from March 2020, when the pandemic began.

The BLS reported the temporary help services sector grew by 5,400 jobs following a revision from 19,300 to 11,200 jobs gained in May 2022. Contingent work, or temporary hiring, is up by 11% year-over-year, contributing to more than 3 million overall jobs for this category.
