Job Interview Tips
The day has come; you have applied for your dream job and have been invited to attend an interview - congratulations!
Even the smartest and most qualified people need to prepare for a job interview. Below are some top tips on how to succeed and come out on top.
How to succeed in a job interview:
?? Be enthusiastic – smile and be confident. They like your experience enough to interview you, back yourself and your ability.
?? Do your research – look through the company’s website and understand where you are interviewing. Why do you want to work for them? (this is one of the most common questions).
?? Look into who will be interviewing you – are they on Linkedin? If so, look them up and see if you have anything in common or at least show you have spent the time to do your research on them (they will like this).
?? Get familiar with the job spec – look through the details of the role. What are they looking for and how does this match your experience?
?? Know your CV – make sure you know your CV inside out and the dates and information correlate with your LinkedIn profile.
?? Be clear with your career goals – most employers will ask you about your career goals and ambition. Ensure you are confident with this and have thought about this prior to your interview. Where do you want to be in 5 year’s time? This is a great chance for you to showcase your enthusiasm for the company and long-term goals.
?? Be clear with your salary expectations – Remember what they advised the initial salary for the role was and make sure this matches with your response.
?? Dress smart – interview in person or over a video call? Make sure you dress smart; this is really important to a lot of employers. You only get one chance to make a first impression and you want it to be the right one.
?? Ask them questions –This is a great chance to show your interest in the position, see the “questions you can ask them” section below with some examples.
?? Be on time – This is really important. If you can’t show up on time to the job interview how can they expect you to be on time for your job if you were hired?
?? Don’t be afraid to close them/get feedback – When the interview is coming to an end, don’t be afraid to ask questions like “how did I do?”, “When should I expect to receive feedback?”, “how many other people are interviewing for this position?”
Common interview questions they will ask:
?? What do you know about our company?
?? Why do you want to work here?
?? What experience do you have that is relevant to the role?
?? What career ambitions or future goals do you have?
?? What are your strengths?
?? What are your weaknesses?
?? What salary are you looking for?
?? How would your friends describe you?
Questions you can ask them:
?? Who will I be reporting to?
?? What are the working hours?
?? What is the career growth available?
?? What made you work for this company?
?? What is your favourite thing about working for this company?
?? What are the companies goals?
?? What is the culture within the company?
Remember that interviews are there not only for the employer to make sure you are the right person for the job, but that this company and role are also the right fit for you. This is your chance to interview them the same way they are interviewing you so make sure you ask them any questions you have.
Good luck with your interview!
