Job Fairs & Job Interviews

Job Fairs & Job Interviews

Hi,

How are you this fine Saturday?

This month I have chosen to change things up a bit. This means that you will get one of the full-length newsletter articles I shared in my weekly newsletter instead of the recap I usually send. You are of course still more than welcome to join my weekly newsletter here.

Before we get into that I do want to ask you one question:

How do you feel about job interviews in Denmark?

I used to get very nervous when going to interviews. Luckily I do not feel that way anymore, because I learned what I can do to give me the best chances, and now I want to teach you the same.

You can join me for my online workshop on the job interview on Saturday the 16th of March at 11.00 AM (DK time). Here is what you will learn:

  • How to best prepare for the interview
  • When the interview actually starts
  • What to bring with you to the interview
  • What to do and what questions to ask at the interview
  • Why the interviewers ask 'stupid' questions they can read from your CV?
  • What to do after the interview is done to up your chances of getting the second interview

Because you are on my newsletter, you get 50 DKK off by using the code: EJ9L2T1IQR

Book your spot here!

I look forward to seeing you!

As promised, here is one of my newsletters from February :)

During February, March, and April there are a lot of Job Fairs popping up, which is why I have made a list of job fairs on my website for you. If you know of any I have not added, please let me know.

I wanted to give you some inspiration for how you can get the most out of the job fairs and conferences you attend.

?? Prepare well from home:

? What companies are attending and which of these do you want to speak to?

Prepare by doing some research and have some great questions ready for them. Also, be open to companies you do not know

? Think about internship opportunities

Maybe you can do an internship in the organizations to figure out if there might be any opportunities for you in the long run. This can also help you develop the skills you need for your next job. Don't be afraid to pitch the idea of doing something new here. Think what is the value you can bring to this company.

? Bring a printed CV and a marker

Print a CV and laminate it. Bring a pen/marker and have people use that to give you feedback on your CV. After you are done, take a picture of the notes, wipe it clean, and bring it to the next person you want to ask for feedback. You can also print a small amount of CVs to hand out, but be aware that some companies might not take them due to GDPR.

? Update your LinkedIn profile

Make sure that your LinkedIn profile is up to date, so people can read more about you and your professional profile if they find you interesting.

?? At the event:

? Remember your personal branding.

Wear or do something that will make people positively remember you. If you meet me at a networking event (that I have not created myself) you will most likely see me in my blue blazer jacket, as it is bright in color and the same I am wearing on my profile picture on LinkedIn.

? Connect with people and write them a note

When you speak with people ask to connect with them on LinkedIn, but don′t just connect, write them a personal message so you both know what you spoke about. If you have no connection messages left (there is a limit on the unpaid version), make sure to note down for yourself what you spoke about, and then write them a message when you have connected.

? Say hi to people you already know

...But spend most of your time connecting with new people and expanding your network.

? Take notes

A lot happens when you are attending fairs and conferences, so make sure to take note of the most important things. The things you really want to remember about a person, conversation, or company. If you are anything like me you probably won't remember the next day without the notes ;)

? Budget your energy

If you are an introvert or extrovert, make sure to take breaks. You need to be fresh and presentable for all the companies you speak to. That is why it is also a great idea to bring healthy food and snacks instead of eating candy and other things that are often available at a fair.

??After the fair:

?Look over your notes and evaluate

Who made the best impressions? Are there people you know you want to, or even know you DO NOT want to speak with again? Prioritize the list.

? Follow up with warm leads

With that I mean follow up with people you think you might be able to get a coffee meeting with or people you would just like to know better.

Remember that not a lot of people follow-up so this is another place where you can stand out from the crowd.

What is your best networking advice for attending fairs and conferences?

I am cheering for you
