Job Fair'23 at FCCU

Job Fairs play a very important role in networking with the officials of various companies. Forman Christian College University, keeping the students as their top priority always, organized a Mega Job Fair event on Monday, 20th March, 2023 at the University's main ground, from 11am till 5pm. A big shoutout to FCCU Career Services and Internships Office for arranging this successful event. It was a great opportunity for the students to interact with the recruiters and learn about various job opportunities present in the market. The event's setup was indeed very presentable and attractive.

Our kindest Ma'am Faiza Tasneem(Associate CIPD) motivated and encouraged us to visit our dream companies at the Job Fair and to know the insights of what's going on in the industry. She also advised us to shortlist few of the companies which we were interested in and to visit their websites as well as LinkedIn profiles before the event. This was a very useful advice as it was not only time-saving but made it easier for me to get familiar with the companies. Further, she taught us how to design our resume cards having QR codes on "Canva" which were indeed very helpful to share our resumes with the recruiters at the Job Fair. Moreover, she also taught us how to draft our resumes in a professional manner.

There were 114 companies which participated in this Job Fair'23. These were represented by experienced officials at their neatly decorated stalls and thoroughly guided us. Following are the companies that I visited:

  1. McDonald's Pakistan

  3. Hardee's Pakistan
  4. Happilac Paints
  5. Honda Pakistan Official
  6. The Bank of Punjab
  7. Bata Pakistan Limited
  8. Yum Group of Restaurants
  9. Forland Motors

First of all, I visited McDonalds as it is one of my dream places to work with. The recruiters there were kind enough to guide and clarify all my queries. Their official explained me in detail about the skills required for HR. I got to learn that communication skill is one of the most important skills required. For fresh graduates, he advised me to have a polished LinkedIn profile for networking along with a presentable resume. Moreover, I asked him about the importance of high CGPA to which he told me that it leaves a very good impression on the recruiter but the person must also have a good knowledge according to his/her CGPA. He also told the importance of Excel in today's professional world. Formulas such as V-Lookup and others are considered to be an important one. Further, I was told that MTO positions are available in their company and advised me to email my resume to their website.

Next I visited Happilac Paints, which also turned out to be a wonderful experience as their officials guided me the skillset required for their company. One thing I liked about Happilac Paints is that being from HR background, I could also apply in their other departments. The recruiter said that their company's main focus is not on student's CGPA but on the skills of the person. At current moment, they are not offering any jobs related to HR field but in future they would.

The Bank has various positions available, which could be applied through their website. Further, the students like us must have good communication skills. Also, my visits to Fordland Motors, Honda Pakistan Official and Bata Limited Pakistan stalls were also very interactive and got to know some useful information. All the companies that I visited shared with me, their relevant emails on which I could send my resume. Upon asking the scope of my degree, all the companies appreciated and encouraged that in the upcoming years it would have more scope in the market. Many of the recruiters were kind enough to give their business cards too.

To conclude, I would like to say that it was really a wonderful learning experience for me through which I gained useful knowledge regarding the industry's future and what skills should I sharpen. Every stall that I visited mentioned the importance of understanding the basics of Excel and relevant expertise such as V lookup, Pivot table, Dashboards, etc. For students like us, we must also possess a grip on IT-based software's and good communication skills. Polished LinkedIn profiles also creates a good impression and is considered as one of the best platforms for networking. In this ever-changing market, it is required for students like us to work smartly.

I would use this experience to mold my personality and skill set so that I will be a strong applicant for the relevant jobs.
