Job Descriptions vs. the Real Job

Job Descriptions vs. the Real Job

If you’re in management and hiring for your team, this quick exercise will help ensure your job description is accurate and sending the right message.

First ask yourself these questions:

  • What exactly do you expect the new hire to do for your over first 12 months. In other words, what will they be judged on in their first review?
  • Looking at your existing team, what skills and abilities could you use more (or less of) to balance the group?
  • For someone not actively looking for a job, what makes this position a good long term career move?

Now look back at your job description as it was written. Are your answers from above conveyed accurately? If not, use those answers to update the description.
