What exactly would you be doing as the chief operating officer?
Currently, I am a Founder of a travel tech company and have also played some critical, varied roles and held different profiles in various companies in the past 43 years. Including the role of a Chief Operating Officer ( COO).
The answer is: it all depends on various factors like the organisation, its stage, the size of the team, its goals and so on. The list would be long. Irrespective of all these factors, one common thread would be firefighting. The role of a COO would be the douse innumerable fires and mainly distinguish which are the important tasks that need priority attention.
I recently came across a very relevant article on the same subject: Keith Rabois on the Role of a COO, How to Hire and Why Transparency Matters
Instead of reproducing it verbatim the article, I am sharing the link to the article here: https://review.firstround.com/Keith-Rabois-on-the-role-of-a-COO-how-to-hire-and-why-transparency-matters
