IT Job Benefits: What to Look for in Your Next Employer

For many, salary is key when looking for a new job.

In fact, it’s often one of the top 5 things people prioritise when they start their search.

But it shouldn’t be the only factor to consider when looking for your next employer.

It’s important to assess what a company can offer you beyond a salary package, and what is most beneficial to you.

Here are things you can look for in your next employer:

1. Flexibility

The ability to work remotely, flexible working hours, and part-time contracts are just some of the ways employers are offering more flexibility to their employees. Having a work-life balance is crucial in maintaining your mental health and avoiding burnout, so it's important to find an employer that understands and supports your needs.

2. Career Growth Opportunities

Your employer should offer opportunities for professional development, such as paid training, conferences, and mentorship programs. This not only helps you to grow as a professional but demonstrates that your employer is invested in your future. ?See how others have progressed within the business and find out what career progression plans are in place.

3. Technology & Infrastructure

For IT professionals, the availability of up-to-date technology and infrastructure is vital. A company that invests in modern technology and equipment provides you with the tools you need to be productive and efficient. This means you stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and developments.

4. Company Culture

This doesn’t just extend to how they treat employees socially, or what team treats they provide. It’s also things like creating a collaborative environment and encouraging teams to work together to problem-solve and develop one another’s skill sets. These things create a positive and productive work culture.

5.?Pension

For some people, it’s important to have security when it comes to retirement age. But remember, this will vary depending on the size of a company and its key priorities. For those wanting more financial stability in the long term, the pension will have greater swaying power.

6.?Health & Wellbeing

It's no secret that the IT industry can be stressful, which is why employers should offer employee wellness programs. Some examples of these include gym memberships, wellness days, mental health support, and even meditation classes. Employers that prioritise employee wellbeing show that they care about their employees and understand the importance of a healthy work-life balance.

As you start your job search, keep in mind that finding the right employer is not just about getting a better salary. It's about finding a company that aligns with your values and goals, and that offers benefits and opportunities that are important to you.

Take the time to research companies and ask the right questions during the interviews to ensure that you find the best fit for your needs.

I have spoken to quite a few candidates recently who are leaning more towards getting on board with a company that can offer them an exciting journey, progression opportunities, working on large projects & flexible working, rather than a salary increase.

Great tips. It's true, salary is important, especially with the economy the way it is, but it isn't always the main driver. Getting the right platform, at the right company with the right opportunities will give you the growth your career needs, and with that comes the money.
