Did you know its National Apprenticeship Week 6th – 12th of February 2023.

This is the perfect time for Employers to engage with apprentices… yes there are some myths and perceptions that need to be addressed. For example the perception of some employers is that apprentices are expensive, time-consuming, or unreliable. While the perception of some students is that apprenticeships are low wages, uninspiring work or dead-end jobs.

That’s my its up to colleges and apprenticeship training companies find new ways of engaging with employers and students alike to change these perceptions.

Here a just 10 simple ways Employer Engagement and Apprenticeships Teams can help change these perceptions:??????

1.?????Visit employers to gain insight into their business and understand their requirement.

2.?????Employ industry experts to deliver masterclass sessions at the college and training centers

3.?????Send lecturers out into industry to remind them of what the workplace is like in terms of challenges and skills

4.?????Have a dedicated recruitment team who network with businesses and promote vacancies, to make student selection easier for employers.

5.?????Have a dedicated team member to help and guide students with their job selections, CV’s interviews etc

6.?????Arrange apprenticeship workshops so students get to see what’s the job really is about?

7.?????Arrange student site visits so they can visit the premised and meet staff???

8.????Hold career fairs for students and employers can meet

9.????Email a monthly newsletter to keep employers and students informed

10.?Keep in contact and listen to what employers want from your college and its students ?

Its paramount that Employer Engagement and Apprenticeships Teams building strong relationships with local employers for the success of any apprenticeship programe.

By working together, colleges and apprenticeship training companies and employers alike can help to change the perceptions and see just how valuable and worthwhile apprentices are.
