JLR TO ROLL OUT FSC-CERTIFIED NATURAL RUBBER TYRES ACROSS ITS LUXURY VEHICLES

At JLR , we are acutely aware that supply chain transparency and integrity are deeply important for our clients. We are fully committed to being a responsible business that values and invests in enabling ethical sourcing and full traceability in our supply chain.??

I am therefore extremely proud to announce our industry-first commitment to using tyres made with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC?) certified natural rubber supplied by leading global tyre manufacturer Pirelli across our vehicle portfolio, including the new Range Rover Electric.?

Made from natural rubber and rayon, Pirelli’s FSC?-certified tyres comply with stringent environmental and social criteria required by the world-leading non-governmental organisation for sustainable forestry. ?

Natural rubber supply chains are extremely complex, with millions of individual farmers contributing to global supply, making traceability challenging. Lack of traceability increases risk of deforestation, forest degradation and human rights abuses. ?

FSC?'s rigorous social and environmental standards eliminate this risk, providing farmers with social protection of working conditions and confidence that the highest ethical standards are being adhered to.?

By committing to Pirelli’s FSC?-certified tyres we are helping to support responsible forest management and protecting the integrity of our rubber supply chain.?

Clients can enjoy high performance tyres with assurance that the origin, quality and ethical standards are fully traceable, right back to each individual rubber plantation.?

Pirelli and JLR are also working together to increase the sustainable and renewable content of all tyres supplied to JLR as we work towards shared sustainability ambitions.

Fabian Farkas, Chief Markets Officer at FSC International, said:?“JLR’s decision to adopt tyres made with FSC?-certified natural rubber across their range is a groundbreaking move that sets a new benchmark for sustainability in the automotive industry. This initiative not only boosts the demand for responsibly sourced natural rubber, but it also positively impacts the environment and the smallholder communities involved in its production".

This is just one example of how we are working differently with our supply chain partners to reduce the impacts of all materials that go into our products as we aim to generate new benchmarks in environmental, societal and community impact for a luxury business, as set out in our Reimagine strategy. JLR’s Global Sourcing Process integrates ESG criteria, to empower our buyers to collect supplier-specific ESG data so they can identify and select suppliers that meet the highest standards relating to environmental performance, labour practices, and social responsibility.

I’m sure you will agree this marks an important step forward for scaling sustainable natural rubber adoption in the automotive industry and promotes sustainable forestry.?
