Freedom is costly
As is peace
Actually anything worth having
Is astronomically steep
It may cost you your peace and the life you once knew
Will you watch and sit idle by
As the final shards of freedom are being stripped purposely and slowly away?
The banner is shredding
It’s flapping limply in the sky
The question is not if freedom is worth having
But rather what are you prepared to lose or sacrifice to obtain it?
What will you do to get it back?
If you’re ok with comfort and following the crowd en masse
This poem isn’t for you, no thanks
But what will you tell your children and grandchildren and their children?
What will your story be? Where will you stand in history?
This fight isn’t for you, silly
It’s for those whom you love and care about deeply
The ones who you’ll be willing to risk it all for
Time and time again
Continually
Do it
Do it for them
And for those who are already in the fray
Pull up your bootstraps
And press on, press on
Keep the goal in sight
Fight for freedom, keep going to the end
And your epitaph someday will boldly tell
You never wavered but endured
And gave your all to the very end
