Jiri’s 2024 Tech Predictions

In 2023, Generative AI was ruling the world. In 2024, this trend will not slow down; it will be coupled with the most extensive infrastructure reinvention since the beginning of the Internet.

2024: Year of Vector Database & Vector Search

There are many trends but one meta-trend will influence everything. This one is so significant that we can use an analogy from the past.

Imagine it is 1994, and there is something called “Information superhighway”, later known as “The Internet”. It is slow and complicated, and many people have no idea what they will use it for.

At the same time, the army of computer scientists, entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs is working hard to unlock the potential of this technology revolution with a particular focus on two areas:

Database & Search

Without internet-ready databases, it would be hard to build systems that allow for the reliable storage and fast retrieval of information online.

Without search, running queries would be complicated for regular users without a computer degree, not to say with no access to underlying data.

So, they asked:

1. What if we create something that will allow better organisation and faster retrieval of data at the internet scale and speed?
2. What if a standardised search allows users without computer science degrees to search not just on their computer and network but everything?

In 1994, this sounded like a pipe dream. The same will happen in 2024, with vector databases, vector search and related business models.?

What to expect in 2024?

There will be a race for technologies that allow storing and retrieving huge amounts of vectorised data and relationships quickly and accurately – the foundation of the new AI-powered Internet and vector-enabled business models.
