“Buy low, sell high – its that simple”, “I don’t buy things that are popular, expensive and trending – its too late!”, “You need to learn to sell short and don’t follow the herd”
Jim Rogers, legendary Investment Guru, talked at the World Wealth Creation Conference 2017 in Singapore to packed audiences.He talked about areas such as;
- How to become a great investor in stock market and real estate
- Recognize trends and the right sectors to invest into at the right time
- Spot the fastest growing regions before other investors start investing
- Pick companies for long-term investments
- Be mentally prepared to be a great investor during both good and bad times
The audience were entertained by his easy-going American charm and rock-solid advice and ideas on good investment methodologies and his opinions on various markets around the world going forward, and he shared his advice on having dual passports to hedge against crisis rocking one economy whilst benefiting another in a Volatile and rapidly changing world. Jim lightened the tone by sharing some family videos of his daughter speaking fluent Chinese over the years to applause from an impressed audience and added to it that he practises what he preached and indicating China will dominate world economies for years to come with exponential growth and Investment opportunities as the middle-class move to the cities in the 100 million++ creating real estate and infrastructure demand.
On Bitcoin, he joked that had he invested a year ago he would be "rich now" (price having increased by over 1000% ++ since then) but still believes it to be a tremendous bubble risk. A reminder that even with the greatest advice, one can never be 100% correct and of course only time will truly tell on Bitcoin, the secret of Jim Rogers success is being right more often than wrong through extensive research, consistent application of methodologies and diversification.
The key messages revolved around doing your homework, look for things that are dynamic but still available cheaply and diversify, once something is trending and everyone is talking about it - its probably to late, and to mitigate risk - sell short, don't go expecting miracles, the safe path ensures consistent likelihood (but no guarantee) of beating the markets.
Jim was very positive on Russia, here is a short clip on Jim answering an audience question about Investing in Russia.
