For over thirty years, the Jamaica Gasoline Retailers Association (JGRA) has been at the forefront of promoting road safety in Jamaica. Their tireless efforts have been instrumental in designating June as Road Safety Awareness Month. This year, under the theme "Stop, before one blood drop," the JGRA is demonstrating its commitment to creating safer roads through a series of Road Safety Month activities.
Labour Day, a few days before the beginning of Road Safety Month, provided the perfect opportunity for the JGRA and RUBiS to make a positive impact on the community by repainting crosswalks at selected schools across the island. We are happy to partner with the JGRA for this initiative which aligns with our dedication to the safety of all road users.
In Kingston, RUBiS Windward Road took the lead in repainting the crosswalks at St. Theresa Preparatory School and Clan Clarthy High School while various JGRA teams across the island painted their own designated school crosswalks. We enthusiastically joined them in this satisfying and meaningful project. In total, 17 crosswalks were painted across Kingston, Westmoreland, Hanover, Manchester, Portland, St. Ann, St. Elizabeth, Trelawny, and St. Catherine.

At Holy Rosary Primary School, REJL staff embarked on their own project, aiming to transform the school's environment. Volunteers focused on planting fruit trees, ornamental plants, and an herb garden. These initiatives enhanced the school's landscape while providing valuable learning opportunities for the students. We are grateful for the generous contribution of three fruit trees by Phillip Chong, our dealer at RUBiS Deanery Road. Mr. Chong, along with his team, joined us after completing the crosswalks and personally planted the trees, exemplifying the power of collaboration between businesses and the community.
Planting fruit trees not only added beauty but also provided a sustainable source of nutrition for the school community. As the day came to an end, we felt tired but grateful for the opportunity to come together and make a difference in the community in the spirit of Labour Day 2023: "Plant a tree… for life: Promoting climate change mitigation, food security, and road safety."
