Jews in Israel and Jews in the USA

Very moving Jewish prayers in front of the White House - didn't expect to feel it all the way over here in Israel. But it's really stunning to see the Jews of America out in full gear - kippot, tallit, tefillen, prayer books - there is no mistaking who these people are. For once, they're not trying to blend in.

This is titled Shachris with Beri Weber in Washington DC ahead of the March for Israel - incredible cantor:

Long Distance Relationship

Over the years there has been a complex and not very simple relationship between Israel and the US. Many ups and downs, which over the last few years reached an unprecedented low. But a healthy relationship between our two countries is really a very essential and important thing for the State of Israel. Right now our hearts are still preoccupied with worrying about our soldiers and the hostages, but let's not forget that we'll have to work on restoring our relationship to a good place, for the benefit of both countries.

There is a current momentum among US Jews, an awakening as a result of the war that sparked large waves of anti-Semitism. It's causing them to rethink everything, while raising many questions and doubts about being Jews first or Americans first.

In general, the war in Israel has brought us closer together. Like great suffering always does. Many celebrities and American Jews have expressed their support publicly - even though there are clear risks involved - but that didn't stop them from expressing support. This shouldn't be underestimated, or taken for granted, because this relationship is very important for the peace and security of Israeli Jews as well as American Jews.

Strengthening ties between the Jews is always good, and in particular when it comes to American Jews. Apparently they are the core of Diaspora Judaism, which has served as a sort of helping arm over the years for the State of Israel, a trend that has reversed in recent years.

So the new form of relations between Jews in general, the Jews of the Diaspora, and the Jews of the United States in particular -- will be another challenge that we will have to deal with in a mutual way. Meaning that each side will have to overcome itself and move towards the other side slightly , and compromises will be made for the benefit of all.

There were a lot of things that were impossible here in Israel before October 7th - that are all of a sudden possible. Budgets and hearts have opened up and everyone is being looked after. But it's more than that ....

Before October 7th we thought it would be impossible for various parts of society to come together and build ties, but it turns out it is possible - if we want it badly enough.

So hopefully we can break down the walls between the Jews of Israel and American Jews. Right now we have a window to do that. Let's hope today is the beginning of a fresh new page in this relationship.
