Commercial aviation is about to enter a new era with the promise of faster, more affordable supersonic flights. The Boom Overture, a jet under development by the American company Boom Supersonic, promises to revolutionize the sector, flying at Mach 2.7, more than twice the speed of sound.


Breaking the Sound Barrier


The idea of flying at supersonic speeds is not new. The first plane to break the sound barrier was the Bell X-1 in 1947, but commercial supersonic flights have become rare due to the high costs and sonic boom generated by these aircraft. The Concorde, an Anglo-French supersonic airliner, operated between 1976 and 2003, but was discontinued for safety and economic reasons.


The Boom Overture: A New Generation of Supersonic Jets


Boom Overture was designed to overcome challenges that have limited supersonic flight in the past. The aircraft uses an optimized aerodynamic design to reduce drag and noise, as well as more fuel-efficient engines.

Fastest and Affordable Flights


Boom Overture promises to significantly reduce travel time between distant cities. A flight between New York and London, which currently takes around 7 hours, could be completed in just 3 hours with the new jet. The company also expects operating costs to be lower than Concorde, making supersonic flights more accessible to a wider audience.


The Future of Supersonic Aviation


Boom Overture is still in the development phase, but the company hopes to carry out its first test flight in 2025 and begin commercial operations in 2029. The success of the project could pave the way for a new era of commercial aviation, with faster flights, comfortable and accessible.
