Jesus Sought Me When a Stranger - The Pursuing Love of Our Savior

Jesus Sought Me When a Stranger - The Pursuing Love of Our Savior

The hymn "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" beautifully captures the essence of God's relentless pursuit of His children, even when we are not actively seeking Him. The line, "Jesus sought me when a stranger," reminds us of the unending love of Jesus, who seeks and saves the lost.

"For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost." - Luke 19:10 (NIV)

Jesus' mission was to search for those who have wandered away, offering forgiveness, healing, and restoration. His love is so great that He willingly left the glory of heaven to become human and endure suffering on our behalf. This divine love is not dependent on our actions or worthiness but is freely given to all who will receive it.

"Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" is a hymn rich with imagery and heartfelt expressions of gratitude for the grace of God. The lyrics eloquently convey the journey of a believer, recognizing the transformative power of God's love and mercy. The line, "Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love," acknowledges our human nature to stray and our deep need for a Savior who seeks us out.

Another line in the hymn, "Streams of mercy, never ceasing," speaks to the abundant and continuous flow of God's mercy towards us. His mercy is like a stream that never runs dry, constantly available to cleanse, refresh, and renew us. In our moments of weakness and failure, we can find solace in the assurance that God's mercy is always present and ready to meet our needs.

As we reflect on the lyrics of "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing," let us be reminded of the powerful love of our Savior, who sought us when we were strangers. His grace and mercy know no bounds, and His pursuit of our hearts is relentless. May we respond to His love by drawing nearer to Him and seeking to share His love with others, knowing that we, too, were once strangers who have been welcomed into the loving embrace of our Savior.

In our weekly walk with Christ, let us be encouraged by the truths found in this hymn. As we face the challenges and joys of life, let us remember that Jesus seeks us out, and His streams of mercy never cease. In moments of doubt, may we hold onto the hope and assurance that His love is steadfast and unchanging, continually drawing us closer to Him.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the incredible love of Jesus, who sought us when we were strangers and lost. We are grateful for His relentless pursuit of our hearts and the salvation He offers. Thank You for the streams of mercy that never cease, providing us with comfort, healing, and renewal in our times of need. Help us to grow closer to You and share Your love with those around us. May we be inspired by the hymn "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" to remember Your unfailing love and grace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
