Jesse's Journey In Tech

I have never been the best test taker in any capacity. I learn through real life situations, hack-a-thons, great mentors and new opportunities. That’s why day in, day out routines in jobs that stay the same, we’re not my passion. This also means that when it comes to technical interviews where I’m expected to prove a concept in 2 - 3 hours and put out code for questions is not my strong suit. I’m learning to walk with my strengths.

I remember my first ever technical interview with American Express, my second week in a full stack bootcamp and they asked me to hand write the code to my choice of language to build a radio with an integrated algorithm toward people’s favorite music, or an interview I just had with a python developer with Google and how I would build a neuron that goes from point a to point b. I might not have that code ready for production alone but I know I can build a team, run agile methodology, see who is great at what, create task, coach my team and build an infrastructure in a fraction of the time it would take me to do it myself. How do I know this? I’ve done it dozens of times from school, work, hack-a-thons, my own projects and by helping friends out.

So when I’m not able to answer a code question, I take a deep breathe, learn and move on. I appreciate new ways of learning, feedback and I understand that tech is a huge ocean and there is more than enough room for my specific set of tools and skills.
